In October, the Roger Federer Foundation and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation launched a joint vision care campaign in Zambia, screening over 2,700 children across three districts and distributing more than 200 pairs of corrective eyewear free of charge. This marks their first field collaboration.
The pilot initiative reached the Mazabuka, Mbala, and Nyimba districts, working through community schools supported by local NGOs ROCS and ZOCS. Over 2,700 children received eye screenings, with more than 200 provided with prescription glasses or sunglasses on-site, tailored to their visual needs.
The Roger Federer Foundation leveraged its existing educational network—spanning 1,900 community schools—to provide school access and coordinate with teachers. The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation conducted the screenings, supplied all equipment, and handled eyewear distribution, while also gathering impact data to guide future outreach.
For Roger Federer, clear vision is essential for learning. “For kids, it’s about something even more important than sports—it’s their future,” he explained. Good eyesight helps children stay focused in class, absorb information, and succeed academically. This initiative aims to directly improve educational outcomes through vision support.
Based on the lessons learned, the next phase will include teacher training. Educators will be taught to conduct basic vision screenings, refer children to eye care centers, and incorporate vision checks into school enrollment processes. The goal is to build a sustainable system for early detection of vision issues.
Local political support is strong. Mazabuka District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba emphasized the importance of investing in children’s health as a way to safeguard the nation’s future. This institutional backing reinforces the project's credibility and could help scale it across other regions.
The campaign was launched around World Sight Day on October 9 and signals a new cross-sector approach to combining vision care and education in southern Africa. It also reaffirms Roger Federer’s long-term commitment to tangible social impact, far beyond his role in sports or eyewear collaborations.

There is something almost paradoxical about EssilorLuxottica’s stock market trajectory in 2026. The group continues to post sales figures most companies would envy — +11.7% at constant exchange rates in Q3 2025, +11.2% for the full year, and +10.8% again in Q1 2026. Yet over six months, its share price has erased more than 40% […]

Thirty years after their debut, Oakley Jackets are no longer just evolving. They are redefining what sports eyewear can be — and what it represents. In 1994, Oakley introduced a frame that didn’t exist before. Wraparound, bold, engineered not to please but to perform. In 2026, that same mindset expands into a broader vision: a […]
