Moi Aussi is the artistic project launched by Etnia Barcelona that transforms eyewear into a medium of expression. Every month, two artists in residence in Venice create five works using a single frame. This global creative laboratory opens to the public through exhibitions around the world, most recently at SILMO Paris 2025.
What is the Moi Aussi project initiated by Etnia Barcelona?
Moi Aussi is a contemporary art platform where eyewear becomes a canvas. Initiated by Etnia Barcelona, each invited artist transforms a neutral frame into a unique piece. It’s an artistic experiment at the crossroads of optical design, sculpture, and visual statement. The project has a clear mission: to bridge optics and art through collaborative and living practice.
Where are the works created and exhibited?
All artworks are created in Venice at the Abbazia della Misericordia, a historic church transformed into the Moi Aussi Creative Lab by Etnia Barcelona. Each artist produces five creations: one for the Moi Aussi gallery, one for the Etnia Museum in Barcelona, two for international art institutions, and one auctioned to fund the continuity of the project. In 2025, SILMO Paris featured a dedicated immersive exhibition.
Who are the artists participating in Moi Aussi?
The selected profiles are diverse: visual arts, installation, textile, performance… Confirmed participants include Greta Pllana, Peter Bracke, Iryna Ozarynska, Carolina Amaya, and Oscar Contreras Rojas. Each year, 24 new artists are invited to the Venice residency, bringing global perspectives and cultural diversity to the project.
Why use eyewear as an artistic medium?
For Etnia Barcelona, eyewear is more than an accessory: it's a vector of personality, vision, and now, artistic expression. With Moi Aussi, the frame becomes a three-dimensional canvas — a sculptural, plastic, expressive medium. This affirms the connection between art and craft, between industrial design and singular gesture.
How does Moi Aussi fit into today’s cultural landscape?
Moi Aussi operates as a manifesto of diversity, emotion, and contrast. It builds a global artistic community and redefines the codes of optical objects. Through museums, galleries, and events like SILMO 2025, the project positions itself as a recognized platform at the intersection of contemporary creation and experimental design.
Moi Aussi x Etnia Barcelona: Why spotlight this collaboration now?
Because Moi Aussi reimagines eyewear as an artistic medium and turns a daily object into a cultural statement. Its recent exhibition at SILMO Paris 2025 makes it one of the most ambitious projects in the creative and optical scene today.
